SILVER PLUME

Small town. Full of stories. Worth slowing down for.

What to Expect

A train whistle across the valley. Coffee before a little wandering. Old buildings with details you might miss if you hurry. Silver Plume invites you to spend a mountain day at your own pace, with history around the corner and good company along the way.

MAKE A LITTLE TIME FOR TOWN

Silver mining helped shape this mountain community, but its story also belongs to the families, shopkeepers, and neighbors who made a life here. Take a walk through town, look closely at the old buildings, and give yourself time to get to know the place.
There’s more here than the view from the highway.

Coffee first. See where the day goes.

Start at Plume Coffee Bar, then spend a little time exploring the historic streets. Later, settle into Bread Bar, housed at the site of an old bakery. Check opening hours before you come, and leave room for a conversation between stops.

MINING THE PAST

Follow the tracks. Find the stories.

Board a historic train from Silver Plume Depot and watch the mountains roll past. Back in town, visit the George Rowe Museum during its open season for a closer look at mining, school days, and everyday life. The old schoolhouse still has plenty to teach.

ON THE TRAIL

See town from a little farther up.

Explore the trails above Silver Plume, where mountain scenery meets traces of the mining and railroad past. The Argentine Trail follows an old railroad bed, while the 7:30 Mine Trail offers another way into the surrounding hills. Check route details and conditions, choose a distance that suits your group, and stay outside abandoned mine workings.

ON THE SNOW

Give your winter day a slower finish.

Make Silver Plume part of a winter stay in Clear Creek. Head out for skiing or riding in the surrounding mountains, then return for a quiet evening. Plan your stops around local opening hours and leave extra time for winter travel.

ON STAGE

A small stage. A whole lot of character.

The Silver Plume Melodrama brings local performers and audiences together at the George Downing Playhouse. It’s a community tradition with laughter, dinner theater, and a role in preserving the town’s historic buildings. Check for upcoming performances and other gatherings before planning your visit.

Plume Sauna Club

Warm up. Slow down.

Wood-fired heat, a cold plunge and mountain air between rounds. Plume Sauna Club invites you to settle into a different pace, whether you’ve spent the morning hiking, skiing or simply wandering through town. Reserve a session and make a little time for yourself.

Pull up a chair.

Pick up sandwiches and trail snacks at Silver Plume Provisions, or settle in at Bread Bar for a cocktail and a little conversation. Live music and local events give you another reason to linger. Check what’s coming up and leave a little room in your plans.

Stay for the morning.

Some afternoons deserve another day. Settle into the historic Windsor Hotel, make yourself at home at Bread House, or find a local vacation rental for your crew. Stay for an evening in town, then wake up with time for another walk and whatever the day brings.
