FOLLOW THE STORY UNDERGROUND

Add a little more adventure to your day.

Pair your train ride with a guided tour of the Lebanon Silver Mine. Explore a historic tunnel, hear about the people who worked inside it, and choose an experience that includes gold panning for a little hands-on discovery.

The combined train and mine excursion takes about two and a half hours. Mine tours are seasonal and involve roughly three-quarters of a mile of walking, including dark, enclosed spaces. Children must be at least five to enter the mine, and wheelchairs and strollers aren’t permitted on the mine tour. Bring a jacket and closed-toe shoes, and check availability before bookin

A LITTLE PLANNING. MORE TIME TO ENJOY IT.

Reserve ahead, especially when you have a particular date or seasonal ride in mind. Check your ticket’s departure station and arrival instructions before leaving. Silver Plume Depot is one boarding location, but departure options vary by service.

Bring a layer for changing mountain weather and check which type of passenger car you’re booking. If anyone in your group needs help with boarding, seating, or mobility access, contact the railroad before purchasing so the team can explain the options for your ride.

Give yourself extra time for traffic, parking, and getting everyone ready to board.

Leave room for dinner.

Find a table. Settle in. Share the stories of the day while a local kitchen takes care of dinner. Stay the night and give tomorrow a slower start, with coffee, breakfast, and a little more time in the mountains.
