PADDLEBOARDING IN CLEAR CREEK

Find your balance. Take in the view.

What to Expect

A few paddle strokes. Mountains reflected in the water. A friend finding their feet beside you. Paddleboarding leaves room for the small moments, whether you spend your time standing, kneeling, or simply enjoying a different view of the shore.

A little planning before you float.

Before bringing your board, confirm that your chosen lake allows paddleboarding and has public launch access. Check current restrictions, parking, and conditions with the land manager. Plan equipment rentals ahead of time.

For your first outing, choose sheltered, permitted flatwater and get instruction on paddling, turning, and getting back onto your board. There’s no hurry to stand. Finding your confidence counts as part of the adventure.

A LITTLE PREPARATION GOES A LONG WAY

Pack for the water. Keep an eye on the sky.

Wear a properly fitted life jacket every time you paddle. Mountain water can stay cold even on warm days, so choose clothing for the water temperature and bring dry layers for afterward. Pack drinking water, sun protection, and a waterproof bag for essentials.

Check the forecast before launching, paddle with a friend, and let someone know your plan. Wind can build quickly, and afternoon storms can arrive fast. Head ashore before conditions turn. For a casual outing, choose permitted flatwater areas. Moving water requires different skills and equipment.

Give anglers room to cast, watch wildlife from a distance, and use established access points. Take everything you brought back home with you.

One adventure leads to the next.Usually to lunch.
